TJ sat down with the Motown icon Smokey Robinson in the Grammy Legends series for The Insider.
The American R&B singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson is known as founding member of the Miracles, an amazing solo artist and King of Motown. He represents over 6 decades of music, in which he has written more than 4,000 songs.
Smokey Robinson was one of the very first artists signed to the Motown label in 1959. While he was big for the label with the Miracles and as a solo artist, he also worked behind the scenes as vice president of Motown Records (1961-1988). He was involved in many facets of the company’s operations, scouting and grooming talents, composing and producing for many Motown artists. His work contributed to the success of Motown Records and helped advance the popularity of soul music.
Smokey Robinson won countless awards including the “Grammy Living Legend” in 1990.
