Welcome to my blog! My name is Dineke Sloot and I’m from Zwolle/Netherlands and I will be writing a blog til Christmas relating to the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation (DDJF). You can look forward to this blog, every two weeks, on 3T Fans United. I am also excited to share that I will also be organizing another fundraiser for the DDJF! But, first I would love to share with you why giving back is so important to me.
I am 31 years young and I love volunteering. In my daily life, I am studying to get a bachelor degree in nursing which almost takes all of my free time at the moment. Currently, I am a nurse on the geriatric ward at a hospital but when I’m not studying, working, volunteering then I love to be outdoors. I find it relaxing to fishing, boating and taking walks.
Since I was 14 years old, I’ve been doing volunteer work from working with the elderly to collecting money door to door for those in need. Since my weeks have been so packed with studying and working, I found that I didn’t have any spare time to volunteer anymore. It felt like there was something missing in my life.
This May, when 3T announced their Up Close and Personal Show scheduled for September in Amsterdam, I was among the lucky ones to get a meet-and-greet ticket. With this ticket in my hands, I immediately started thinking of how I could thank 3T for everything they have meant to me for over 20 years! Instead of buying them souvenirs I wanted to support the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation (DDJF), the foundation launched by Taj, Taryll and TJ in honor of their late mother.
As the idea was gelling, some fans were asking to become part of my idea! So, 3T Fans United helped to involve more fans and then more than 25 fans from all over the world contributed! We raised a total of $800 for the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation! For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was giving back to the world and through this experience I got to feel the Power of Love.
I support the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation because this foundation is helping children in need, especially children who have experienced loss and grief. It is a non-profit organization which means that the money they receive through the sponsoring they give back to the community.
At this moment the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation is giving children aged 12 to 18 years the possibility to go to music therapy. It is a great way to give children a safe and fun outlet for their feelings and teaching them how to cope with those feeling. For more information just go to ddjf.org but in the upcoming weeks I also will tell more about the foundation in my blog.
A lot of people suffered loss one way or another in their childhood from the loss of a parent, grandparent maybe a pet or even psychological loss. There are different kinds of losses. I was bullied for over ten years, and for me that felt like the loss of a fun, carefree childhood. And I still feel the consequences of that bullying every day. If I had gotten help back then maybe I could lead a happier life now. I will tell my story in the upcoming blog post.
That is the main reason why I am a supporter of the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation. Because if my money can make the change in one child’s life, it all will be worth for me. Even if that child I’m helping lives miles away. How about you?
Along with this blog, I will be organizing another fundraiser for the DDJF. Would you like to be a part of it and help the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation make changes in children’s lives?
Here is how: 3T Fans United and I want to motivate as many people as possible to donate for the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation until Christmas. Every donation, no matter how much, is a contribution to provide music therapy for a child in need. I think this is a good way to give back for the holiday season.
You can make your donation to the DDJF via their website www.ddjf.org.
If you are living in Europe and want to donate but don’t have any opportunity to transfer money yourself, I would love to help you by collecting and transferring the money for you. Just let me know. You can contribute either way, whatever is more convenient for you. I definitely will do one big donation on December 22nd!
Until next week!
